Seville to Madrid

Day 1

Seville — Andalusian Grand Departure

Embark in Seville and meet the crew over a welcome reception. A guided tour takes in the Cathedral and the Giralda, the Real Alcázar with its Mudéjar palaces and gardens, the Plaza de España and the lanes of Santa Cruz, before a flamenco-flavoured welcome dinner. Overnight in Seville.

Day 2

Córdoba — Mosque-Cathedral & Jewish Quarter

A day in Córdoba, once the dazzling capital of Islamic Spain. The great Mezquita-Catedral — a forest of red-and-white arches — stands at its heart, surrounded by the whitewashed Judería, flower-filled patios and the Roman bridge over the Guadalquivir.

Day 3

Jerez & Cádiz — Sherry, Horses & the Atlantic

In Jerez de la Frontera, a performance at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art and a tasting in a historic sherry bodega. The afternoon reaches Cádiz, the oldest city in the Western world, ringed by the Atlantic and crowned by its golden-domed cathedral.

Day 4

Mérida — Roman Spain

Founded as Emerita Augusta in 25 BC, Mérida holds the finest Roman ruins in Spain — the great theatre and amphitheatre, the forum and the longest Roman bridge in the world — a UNESCO World Heritage ensemble in the heart of Extremadura.

Day 5

Cáceres — Medieval & Renaissance Heritage

The walled old town of Cáceres is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that feels unchanged for centuries — a labyrinth of palaces, noble towers and storks' nests in golden stone, with not a single visible cable to break the spell.

Day 6

Toledo — City of Three Cultures

Toledo rises above a bend of the Tagus, the former capital where Christian, Jewish and Muslim Spain met. Its cathedral, synagogues, mosque and the art of El Greco fill a UNESCO old town that is itself a museum of medieval Spain.

Day 7

Aranjuez & Madrid — Royal Finale

A final morning at the Royal Palace and gardens of Aranjuez, the spring residence of the Spanish kings, before the train arrives in Madrid and the journey comes to a close.
